Description:
In this book, Negri and Cocco undertake a discussion about Latin America during the period that goes from the second post-war period up to the present, focusing on three major economies: those of Brazil, Mexico and Argentina, not because they are seen as homogeneous realities –nor is there any attempt to obscure their distinct dynamics-, but because they appear to be representative of the Latinamerican situation. This is a region that throughout the 20th. Century has failed to reduce inequality in spite of high rates of economic growth. The authors refine their criticism of the “national development” model promoted by CEPAL in the 60’s, putting forward arguments that become essencial when thinking about the national situations nowadays. The present tendency to recompose the global front of the struggles makes it imperative to resume the theoretical debate, in order to build a common ground. This is in part already happening, with the fall of the “consensus of Washington”, that is, the imperial rule that articulated and determined the structures of the capitalist dominance.
